Things To See and Do                                                                                          We are within close walking distance to the theatres, galleries, restaurants and other attractions of the town centre.

There is much to see and do in the local area. The area is well supplied with antique stores and award winning wineries. There is a rich tradition of manual and performing arts, highlighted by the Biennial Castlemaine State Festival held in odd numbered years.

There are numerous galleries supplied by the local artists and craftsmen. A must see is the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Museum benefitting from generous bequests from a number of wealthy gold boom families. It is one of the finer collection within the country.

Castlemaine is a world class centre of excellence in Hot Rodding, with a myriad of support businesses that draw enthusiasts for near and far. There is a Hot Rod Museum and an annual Swap Meet and Hot Rod Run with many fine cars on display.

The surrounding towns of Maldon, Daylesford and Harcourt each have something unique to offer.

Maldon is Australia's first notable town, and is accessable by road (15 minutes) or by the Steam Train service of the Victorian Goldfields Railway.

Daylesford (20 minutes by road) is at the centre of the districts numerous Mineral Springs and offers Spa Pools and associated therapeutic Treatments at nearby Hepburn Springs.

Harcourt (5 minutes by road) in the fertile Harcourt Valley, and is famous for its fresh produce. Farmers' markets are held regularly.

The environmentally significant Box-Ironbark forests are host to unique fauna and flora. They are accessible through short walks in the Kalimna and Kaweka reserves right on the edge of the town, or within the Castlemaine Digging National Heritage Park, with its relics of the goldminers and early settlers, as well as of the aboriginal inhabitants who preceeded them. The Dry Diggings Track which winds through the park is part of the much larger Great Dividing Trail which allows serious walkers to travel various stages of the walk from Bendigo in the north to Daylesford, then Ballarat or Bacchus Marsh in the South

The local forests are also popular with mountain bikers and orienteers, with several state and national championship courses laid out over the last few years.

At present, our web site is still under construction. Photos are coming!
